In 2014, I was a part of Otis' Creative Action class, We're Surrounded. The goal of this summer class was to create a parade entry that tackled specific social issues, that year's issues being endangered animals, and being Otis' first ever entry in the Westchester 4th of July Parade. We spent the first half of the month going on field trips and learning about different endangered species and the second half of the month creating our entry.
The main project I tackled was making a condor costume for myself. We were limited to using mostly recyclable materials, mainly paper. My costume utilized cardboard, paper, thrift store clothing, velcro, tape, string, and metal eyeholes.
That year we were awarded the Chairman's Choice Award.
